Pushing My Car andGalloping in the City: Approx. 30 Miles to the East
Some day about two months ago, my carsuddenly couldn’t start. Several times wanted to send it examined and repaired, but due to my constant travelling, it is now still abandoned by the road.
Several days ago, on my way home fromanother travelling, I was deliberating about my upcoming art project whilepondering my inconvenience brought about by the broken car, and I suddenlystarted laughing, because such a picture jumped into my head, a picture inwhich I push my car alone travelling through the swarming city. After some chuckling,I soon proposed the project of “pushing my car to examine and repair”
Starting Time: October 12th2012, in the afternoon
Ending Time: Based on theactual situation
ActualisingPlace: Urban area in Chengdu, China
Materials Included: Xing Xin (the author himself), theauthor’s broken SUV, the assistive friend holding the steering wheel in thedriver’s cab during the work (a car model), the author’s home, the maintenancedepot, and all the people, culture, scenery, and matters the author passes fromthe northwest to the southeast through the city.
Projected Process:From the spot where the car is now parked, with the shortest and most practicableroute I push the car to the maintenance depot. The spot where the car is nowpark (which is also my home) is in the northwest corner of the city, while the maintenancedepot is in the southeast corner of the city (which is the only maintenancedepot in the city because my car is a niche model). The linear distance betweenthe two spots are approximately 30 miles. I presume to send the car to the maintenancedepot non-stop, with regular diet, regardless of the weather.
AssistiveClarification: This is my first car in life, a three-door version SUV left thefactory in 2005. Its body is pure yellow, and the inner space is consisted ofblack and red. I bought it on a second-hand car market in the middle of 2008. Ican’t tell it is Made-in-China or Made-in-Japan. It is not because when Ibought it the former owner had already changed the original car logo intoanother Japanese car logo under which trademark has another car identical inappearance but different in performance with this one, but because that the Chinesemanufacturer of this car has used Japanese production line and pattern die toproduce the car almost identical to Japanese car in China, which means the caris not some product surrogated by Japanese company to manufacture or sell inChina. Considering the relatively tense relationship between China and Japanrecently, I think I have to make some assistive clarification about theindividual case of the car.
